The Private Life of the Royal Academy (2)

I now know when the film about the Royal Academy is going out on television – this Saturday at 9 p.m. and thereafter available on i-player.   Having digested it and heard many comments, I can strongly recommend it as a view behind-the-scenes of the RA and how it operates:-

Have now caught up with this on i-player (its original transmission clashed with Eurovision which is essential viewing in this house!). What I particularly liked about it was the evident care given to older RAs. It reminded me of when I was an academic and elderly emeritus staff would be sat in the Senior Common Room (in my case at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology) and consult the free magazines and continue to be involved in the life of the university and of their academic discipline.

Not sure if it is going to be more widely shown but I have tickets for a members’ showing at the Barbican in July of The Opera House, a documentary about the last fifty years of the Metropolitan Opera, which from the trailer looks to be very interesting on the building of the Lincoln Centre:
Might be your sort of thing.

    Best wishes,

    • Thank you and I agree about the inter-generational aspect of it, which is one of the things I really like. There’s quite a big genre of institutional films, beginning with Molly Dineen’s one about the Zoo. Not sure I can make the Met one, but am glad to know about it. Charles
