We came to see the gardens at Stourhead, which I have only ever seen in the summer and autumn, never in the pale light of winter. We dashed round, past the grotto and Pantheon and up to the Temple of Apollo.
The nymph of the grot:-
A river god:-
The gothic cottage:-
The Pantheon:-
And the Temple of Apollo:-

Was the house in all its Palladian beauty closed ? Lovely to see the grounds, the Pantheon and the Temple of Apollo in their winter garb through your lens. Thank you.
We skipped it. Maybe a mistake. Charles
Certainly a mistake if you haven’t seen it recently or in detail : some lovely Richard Wilsons; a good Poussin; a bust of Charles I by Le Sueur (worth borrowing for The King’s Pictures exhibition ?) ; some unusual terracotta modelli by Rysbrack; and a superb collection of Chippendale.
