Thank you for this. I found it a valuable listen. I was particularly interested in consideration being given to how an artwork destined for a religious setting could be read differently in a secular one or vice versa. I’m sure I wasn’t the only person at the recent Tate turbine hall London Symphony Orchestra concert wondering about how the Messiaen ‘Et Exspecto Resurrectionem Mortuourum’ would have come over differently in a church setting.
For anyone else giving this a listen I should point out that the first twelve and a bit minutes are silent. I only realised this once I had called in my teenage tech support to ‘fix’ the problem with the recording.
