Paul Nash

I had no idea that Edward James employed Paul Nash to design the bathroom for his house in Wimpole Street after his marriage to Tilly Losch.   The floor- to-ceiling ladder was to help her exercise and the room was lined with purple glass to match her ice blue eyes.   Quite something (the photograph is by Dell and Wainwright):-

is it in the V and A? I think there may be something at West Dean, have not had time to look it up, and I think PN designed seating textiles for London Underground but may have got this all wrong. He was a bit of a polymath.

    • Dear Marina, I don’t know what became of it – or, indeed, when the replica was made. It roughly coincided with Unit One, when presumably he was experimenting with different styles and idioms (not very convincingly except maybe in his photography). Charles
