Sometime late 1980s I gave a lecture at Harewood House on Victorian photographer Roger Fenton from a pulpit in the church in the grounds. No microphone so I accessed my inner vicar & projected. Freezing cold weather & I remember I was wearing my very uncuratorial turquoise Benetton duffel coat & furry boots.
Fenton’s 1858 photographs of Harewood House gardens, grounds & house exterior from the Royal Photographic So iety Collection are glorious. They can be seen online at the V&A’s website under Search the Collections.
