In the past, I have always been taken round Singapore. With a day to spare before the flight back, I took myself off to explore.
First, because it was close to the hotel, I wandered the streets of Kampong Glam, the still surviving lowrise Arab neighbourhood, including Haji Lane:
Some rather splendid 80s kitsch:
Then I went in search of a bookstore, Books Actually, in Tiong Bahru, an area of modernist housing:
It pelted with rain, so I took refuge in a coffee shop, Forty Hands:
I then retreated to more familiar territory in Duxton Hill and Club Road:
I quite like the strange mix of old colonialism and high finance, overscaled postwar social housing schemes, Wallpaper-style cafés (I revisited the Department of Caffeine on Duxton Road) and ethnic neighbourhoods with Turkish food and ribbon shops in the afternoon heat.

all our favourite haunts!
Yes, I thought of you both during my explorations ! Charles
