West Norwood Crematorium

Having spent my youth exploring crematoria, it has been a pleasure to be able to see the West Norwood Crematorium, founded by Act of Parliament in 1836 and consecrated in December 1837:

  1. My first trip to “Open Day” at WNC was like stepping into a Pinter play – I loved the whole experience (esp the demonstration of old vs new gurneys and the protestations about how ashes were never mixed up…plus I learned an amazing amount. Afterwards we had free tea and biscuits with quite a few local homeless people who had figured out that there would be free tea and biscuits. Next to the Kensal Green tomb tour, this could be my favourite one in town.
