We went to Vila Viçosa, the sixteenth-century palace built by the Dukes of Braganza, where Catherine of Braganza was born in 1638 and where she played blind man’s buff; but the palace had no disabled access, so instead we explored the streets of the town:-

Loverly slides (as ever) though rather looks as if a neutron bomb has bin dropt on the place… Which reminds me I wanted to ask you about the obelisks atop Nossa Senhora da Graça do Divor… Do we know if they were they sixteenth century like the church?
I can’t find any decent information about the church, let alone the obelisks, but it looks all of a piece. We went because of a (rather uninformative) entry in the Bradt Guide. I should have brought the Blue Guide. Charles
