Hackney Wick (1)

We went for a freezing cold expedition to the Olympic Park for a walk, but couldn’t find anywhere to park, so wandered round Hackney Wick which seemed to be a hive of lockdown activity with cafés and food shops and a nice hole-in-the-wall where we were able to buy freshly baked ciabatta for lunch:-

Of course the best reason to go to Hackney Wick – at least in normal times – is to visit the wonderful Ira and Simon at the London Centre for Book Arts who offer great courses, space for people to try out and improve their bookmaking skills and a shop selling books, cards/prints and bookmaking notions.

If you can get to the Olympic Park – and I know parking is very difficult there – the National Trust/Mayor of London/Bloomberg blossom garden is starting to be planted just near the Timber Lodge cafe. There are to be 33 native blossoming trees (cherry, plum, hawthorn and crab apple) arranged in three circles representing the 33 London boroughs. The signs say that it is opening in Spring 2021.
