The Medlar Tree

The medlar tree in the front garden is in leaf. Less than two weeks ago I took a photograph out of the dining room window:-

This is how it looks this morning:-

If you ever want more medlars – or choice of the most magnificent range of fruit trees – I highly recommend Keepers Nursery which is in East Farleigh, just near Maidstone. It has more than 600 specimens of fruit trees and has been established since the 1980s. The couple who run it from their Georgian home, Gallants Court, are Iranian and have a particular interest in medlars and quinces. They are generally not open to the public but they have a fantastic open day for charity each September/October when you can take along a paring knife and sample fruits straight from the trees. Everything we’ve ever ordered from them has flourished. Hopefully they will be able to open up this autumn.
