It may legitimately be felt that I am slightly obsessed about 22, Bishopsgate, the monster that has appeared out of nowhere to blight every view of the City, given permission by the City fathers who I hope now regret it.
This is what it looked like a couple of nights ago on my way to the dry cleaners. Scary:-

Certainly not a looker & didn’t appear well on the skyline view from Greenwich Park by the Wolfe staute this afternoon. Why continue to build these Brobdingnagian monstrosities in the City when no one wants new offices? Madness.
Dear Charles ..thank you for all your posts, your care and concern for the built environment is greatly appreciated. In 1984, Prince Charles described Mies’s unbuilt Mansion House Square project as a “glass stump”, and that was to be only 19 floors. All these years later, we now see 22 Bishopsgate at three times that height at 62 floors. The hugely successful Canary Wharf was in part supposed to help the Square Mile not have buildings of quite this height. I didn’t think a building would be allowed to go higher than the rather more elegant The Leadenhall Building .. but how wrong was that hope.
Yes, it all seems to have happened without much public controversy, as if no-one was paying attention until it’s too late. Charles
