The Sainsbury Wing (8)

I have taken a close personal interest in the development of the Sainsbury Wing, not least because I have long been an admirer of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown which has made it a highly contentious project from the moment that changes were first proposed.

Here is my verdict:-

I feel you are a little generous! It was a lot of money to spend on not very much and while the new space might be more practical, it’s a lot less charming and elegant. The furniture and glass balustrades are shockingly ugly.

    • Yes, you’re not the only person who thinks that; but I was impressed by the generosity of the entrance space as others have been. And I’ve been back several times since and have so enjoyed it being open again. Charles
