Beacon Hill

I wish I had acquired the habit of walking when I was in Boston in 1976.   I always regarded Boston as a distant city, to be reached only on the T, so never got to know the pleasures of Beacon Hill – its steep brick streets and Federal houses, home of the brahmins.   This afternoon I walked up Mt. Vernon Street and enjoyed the shabbiness of its Greek Revival detailing:-

Thank you for your Beacon Hill pictures. I was there two weeks ago. Boston is my favourite American city but we were unlucky with the weather as it rained both days we were there. Beacon Hill is so beautiful but I also like the North End Italian quarter and the copper fronted buildings there. After Boston I went down the East Coast as far as Charleston and Savannah. Both were magical cities and found the houses particularly fascinating in Charleston as many had piazzas and false front doors.
