The Ocean Estate

The Ocean Estate has a bad name, but I’ve always liked the low-rise houses, which are well maintained, with a great deal of highly individualistic styling and have an atmosphere redolent of the homes for heroes of 50s Britain:-

    Dr Charles Robert Saumarez Smith CBE., Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Arts, a British cultural historian, should have tried living in Malacca House, one of the many seven-storey blocks which constituted the majority of the Ocean Estate, were the basis of its name and qualified it for its “bad reputation”. I’ll bet he never went near them! Mercifully, they have been torn down as part of the 2012 Olympic development.
