I have seldom seen Wickham’s look so magnificent as it did this morning in the winter sun, its tower seen from a distance alongside the line of plane trees planted in 1910 on Mile End Waste:-
Good to see Wickham’s Dept store captured so well in late December sunlight. The stonework looks pristine and honey-coloured. On the rare occasions I’m in the Mile End area I like to go by the former store. Reminds me here a little of the former Gaumont State Cinema that I discovered by chance recently. The tower of which is modelled on the Empire State Building.
These three entries make a wonderful Trailer for SAUMAREZ SMITH’s GUIDE TO EAST LONDON (2016) ! Something to which to look forward in the New Year
Thank you ! Happy New Year ! Charles

Gaumont State Cinema looks amazing – I’ve never seen it. Charles
