We went to a party last night in St. John on Bethnal Green, a church interior that I scarcely know and do not really recognise as a Soane design, although well documented as such, the foundation stone laid on 6 June 1826. I quite liked the surreal incongruity of C.G. Hare’s reredos looking down on the band riffing:-





I sometimes go in there just to spend some time with the intense yellow of the Chris Gollon Stations of the Cross.
