One of the pleasures of coming to the Dovedale Literary Festival is the pleasure of being in Dovedale itself: the view across the valley of the River Dove over the hill from Cheadle with clouds settling in the valley; the walk over the fields to Ilam in the morning; walking up Dovedale; and looking across the valley to Hazelton Clump:-
Yes, it is baffling that the Staffordshire Moorlands remain ill-considered and , relatively, unknown when Dovedale and the Manifold Valley are so beautiful. Thank you for drawing attention to them.
Yes, we drove through the Staffordshire countryside north from Stafford itself past Sandon and through Cheadle and were amazed how unspoilt it was. Charles
Is that Ilam Hall Youth Hostel in your second photo? We’ve had some good family holidays staying there. It’s a bit damp and spartan but atmospheric and in a great location.
